Are You Unemployable or Just An Employee?
So, are you truly “unemployable”? Do you cringe when people say you HAVE to do something? Do you panic when you are told that you HAVE to record your work time?
Well, you are not alone.
Many people are unemployable because THEY want to control their own destiny. They want to make their own work schedules, be responsible for scheduling and completing their own tasks, and have their income grow or shrink on their own effort.
OR … do you want someone else to be responsible for all of those things?
Imagine the world without employees. Most mass produced items would disappear. Few cars, computers, phones, processed food, etc, etc. No waiters or waitresses. No bartenders, no chauffeurs, no hotel staff, no stewardesses.
What we would have would be quite expensive since the economy of scale would not exist. Those that are today living with others doing most everything for them would become truly one-man shows. Not very pretty is it? Fortunately, for many, the employee exists or we would have extreme chaos in the world.
Most people tend to have an employee personality. This is not good or bad, right or wrong. Many people want someone else to control want goes on in their work life. They may complain about this fact forever but they don’t want the responsibility. They need to have someone guide them.
This is fortunate for those of us that ARE unemployable.
Because we WANT to be our own bosses, we can do many things “employees” never consider. We dictate our work schedules. We set our own goals … and reap the rewards when the goals are met … both physically and financially. We don’t have to worry about the boss telling us we have to stay late to finish that project or any of the other demands of a boss.
On the other hand, we tend to be harder on ourselves than most bosses would ever do. We set deadlines that we aren’t sure we can meet, sometimes just to see if we can do it. We have the tendency to venture into unknown areas because we enjoy the challenge of the unknown. But we also understand the profit potential of the unknown and we always are seeking to push the financial limits … because we can. We know we will benefit financially if we do what we know we can do.
The employees of the world will never see this financial situation, unless they win the lottery, because they don’t and won’t task the necessary risk. They want the weekly paycheck. They would NEVER take a position that would allow for less income even though the potential for more income exists. They don’t trust their ability to come out on the winning side.
So, how do you transition from employee to unemployable?
My suggestion is follow the path that my team and I have followed. Go to: http://tr.im/emmfor and learn how we teach people to transition from your world to ours. You won’t be sorry.

What a great segway to get people thinking. Awesome thought process put in place here.
I swear Palte, you weren’t an engineer, you were a psychologist.
Those exact reasons right there are why I am an “unemployable” individual.

Bill,
You really have a way of explaining how the unemployable mind works.

Are you Hiring Bill? JK.
Interesting psychology behind this process, Now I have a clear idea how both sides think differently.

Phsychologicaly UN-Employable – Jeffrey Combs. It continues to amaze me when I hear someone say that they can’t wait for retirement. “only 20 years to go” ha. Entrepreneurism requires disipline, determination, and an unwillingness to fail. Three things that most people have no desire to aquire. It is sad that so many poeple still believe that job security is still secure.
Great Post Bill.

Hey Linus,
People ALWAYS underestimate engineers. We fit the “psycho” part quite well. We also understand (most do) what makes people tick. It’s part of the job.
Thanks for the comments. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the comments. Yes, Jeffery Combs understands and states it well. I agree, most will never understand but I keep trying to educate anyway.
To Your Continued Success,

Hey Bill,
Very well put my friend. Free enterprise is not going to be for everyone…Those that understand it and can dictate their own work schedules will be able to flourish not only financially as entrepreneurs but also with piece of mind that they are truly FREE.

Wow Bill,
You spelled it out perfectly. I often use the term “mentally unemployable” to describe myself.
I really can’t imagine having my future in the hands of someone else. Just sounds silly to me, but that’s me.
Thanks again for a great insight as usual,
~Bert

Bill, You always have a great way of explaining things!

Right on the money Bill,
I would have a hard time going back to work for someone at this point in my life. I, like you, am glad that there are people that do work in those positions, for without them there would be chaos. Hopefully someone reading this post it will make them decide where they want to be.
Thanks for the post,
Peace…
Kathy

Bill this mindset that you propose is spot on. Being your own boss is one of the most rewarding satisfying accomplishments a person can achieve.
